In The Beginning
Cannabidiol (or CBD) has only recently become legally available in the UK, but it is already growing in popularity. CBD is a plant extract derived from hemp and used in CBD vape oils and CBD e-liquids.
Because cannabis is known for its psychoactive properties, some people assume that CBD will have the same effect. But CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it won’t make anyone high.
CBD is one of over a hundred cannabinoids found in cannabis and a lot of research has gone into the effects of CBD. Unlike Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, one of the other cannabinoid constituents of cannabis that the plant is more famously known for, CBD does not have intoxicating effects and is instead used for other purposes.
The CBD used in e-liquids and vape oils can be obtained in a variety of ways like being synthesised or extracted from hemp. The CBD extracted from organically grown hemp has developed a reputation as one of the most popular forms of CBD and is starting to dominate the market.
CBD Oils And Liquids
Like other organic products, organic CBD e-liquids or vape oils appeal to people looking for an all-natural experience.
When it comes to the foods and drinks that we enjoy, many of us like to know what we’re putting into our bodies and prefer to enjoy food that has been organically grown and sold without artificial additives.
Over the last couple of decades the number of foods and drinks with artificial colourings, flavourings or preservatives has been decreasing in the UK as people turn to natural alternatives. This trend is linked with the negative publicity that some artificial flavourings and preservatives have received.
This desire for organic products free from artificial additives is also true with vaping. Some manufacturers are meeting this demand with e-liquids and vape oils using CBD extracted from organically grown hemp as well as using organic nicotine in their juices.
At the moment we don’t have results from any studies comparing the effect of using organic and non-organic CBD. Since CBD has only recently become available, it will take time for studies like this to happen. But until the evidence comes in, a lot of people are assuming that cannabidiol extracted from organically grown hemp is better for us than non-organic cannabidiol.
It is easy to see why people are choosing organic CBD over non-organic. We already know the benefits and popularity of organic foods and drinks, so why not choose organic CBD too?
Other CBD Choices
As well as taking CBD in the form of an e-liquid or vape oil, cannabidiol is also available in a variety of other products since becoming legally available in the United Kingdom.
Vaping has become the most popular way to take CBD with e-liquids outselling all other products available. It has been speculated that the reason why CBD e-liquids are so successful is because the effects of CBD can be felt quickly compared to ingestion or absorbing cannabidiol through the skin. Vaping also allows more CBD to be absorbed by the body.
Another way to take cannabidiol is through CBD edibles, foodstuffs which contain cannabidiol. These tend to be sweet treats like gummies, brownies or cookies, but other products are available. Edibles like these appeal to non-smokers and non-vapers, people who want to take CBD but aren’t comfortable with the idea of inhaling vapour.
The flavours and uplifting nature of these sweet treats helps make CBD gummies and other edibles one of the more popular choices. Compared to vaping CBD e-liquid, edibles take longer before the effects become noticeable and less CBD is absorbed into the body.
CBD can also be taken in the form of capsules or syrup. These products are similar to CBD edibles, except that they can be taken like similar supplement capsules or syrup instead of being eaten as food.
Finally, skin creams, shampoo and lotions are another popular way of taking CBD. These lotions work like other topical ointments, allowing people to apply the CBD to an area of the body where the cannabidiol is then absorbed through the skin.
The effect of CBD being absorbed through the skin is different to ingestion or being inhaled through vaping. But cannabidiol lotions appeal to people with specific areas they want to treat with CBD.
There can be some confusion between CBD vape oils and e-liquids as oils can also be vaped although they require special equipment.
CBD e-liquid is basically the same as any other juice you might vape except that it contains CBD instead of nicotine. E-liquids with CBD use a base of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG) like standard e-liquids and can be vaped using a regular atomiser.
CBD vape oils on the other hand use a base of oil instead of PG and VG. The oil is usually hemp oil and CBD vape oils require specialised equipment to vape and come with additional health risks compared to CBD e-liquids.
Recent changes in the legality of products containing CBD means that there is now a wide selection of CBD vape oils and e-liquids to choose from. Different vapers will have their own reasons for picking one brand or product over another, but going organic is something that appeals to many vapers.
Organic CBD vape oils and e-liquids are made from CBD extracted from organically grown hemp. Organic e-liquids or vape oils appeal to people looking for an all-natural experience without artificial additives.
At the moment there are no results from studies comparing the effect of organic CBD and non-organic CBD, so we don’t know exactly what differences or benefits there are. But organic CBD is growing in popularity because it’s assumed that its better for you than non-organic, just like organic foods and drinks.
