How To Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth When You Quit Smoking

One of the hardest things to overcome when you do decide to try and quit smoking is cravings. Cravings are sadly too common when you quit smoking. This is simply because of the addictive nature of tobacco cigarettes. Most of us end up substituting one addiction for another. It’s how we humans are!

Most often, the craving we have is for sweet, sugary foods. Which is okay to give in to, once in a while, but that old adage of too much of a good thing, applies here. Save these rewards for when have something to celebrate or a special treat now and then because now that you’ve quit smoking, you’ve already done something so monumentally awesome for your health, it should be rewarded.

Keep in mind that the addiction to sugar is a powerful one, you’re going to have to dig deep and draw on your extra reserves of willpower, if you don’t want these sugar cravings to own you like nicotine has with cigarettes.

I know that gaining weight when you quit smoking is a real concern, but If you’re worried about piling on the pounds when you quit smoking, because you’re sure your sweet tooth will run amok. Don’t be. There are ways around it.

You logically know that quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. So don’t let anything deter you from doing that. As I said, you can defeat this craving of sweets without too much trouble.

I am going to cover a few suggestions that people have used and found helpful. This is a simple guide to managing your sweet tooth when you ditch the tobacco cigs.

Options

#1. Check out the healthy sweet alternatives
You can eat all the chocolate, sweets and cakes that you want to, so long as you commit to changing your usual habits and perhaps modifying what you call ‘sweet’.

I swear to you that you don’t have to forgo sweet treats completely in this quest to avoid sugar. In fact, there is a whole world of guilt-free healthy treats which can help and you can gorge yourself silly on, should you wish to.

If you’re looking to say goodbye to the processed, sugar laden cakes and chocolates that you would normally chow down on, and say hello to the new wave of healthy sweet alternatives, then you might want to try granola mixes, fresh and dried fruits and others of this nature.

There are tons of prepackaged ‘sweet’ foods on the market waiting for you too. Don’t worry, because you don’t have to change your diet for all processed foods.

As I said, if you want to indulge your sweet tooth, why don’t you consider doing it naturally? You see nature has a bounty of sweet foods just waiting to be eaten, like dates, fresh fruit and honey. Brown sugar is less dangerous to us and can help when it comes to making some treats in your kitchen for you and the family.

There are so many creative ways to defeat this problem. For instance, freeze a few very ripe bananas, then, still frozen, blend them up in a food processor, and if this isn’t the best sweet banana ice (non) cream you’ve ever had, I will be amazed. You can add things such as cocoa powder for a chocolate hit, or peanut butter for a nutty flavour, or both and capture a bit of that Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup taste. I’ll admit this is one of my faves.

#2. Try some whole grain and high fibre foods
As you quit smoking, your body can release more insulin than necessary after you’ve finished eating, and this means that you can suffer from low blood-sugar levels, which might be why you’re craving sweet, sugary foods more than normal.

There’s ways to help control your blood-sugar levels which work really well, such as eating whole grain and high fibre foods which are more complex carbs. As such, they are processed and absorbed by our bodies much more slowly than say a bar of chocolate. This then leaves you feeling fuller for longer, and helps to prevent spikes and drops in your blood sugars as they release energy slowly. Which will also keep your moods more level over all.

#3. Get active
This one was the hardest for me, but I am slowly getting better. Everytime you get a craving for sugar, get up and do something active. I know, I know. Easier said than done. Especially while you’re at work and may not have much freedom to move around. But truly, there are ways to do this within your own limitations.

Doing something active not only serves to distract you from the sugar craving, but you can give your body a dose of some other feel good chemicals that will actually do it good. That’s right, the wonderful natural highes you experience with endorphins. The feel good factor of these chemicals last far longer than any sugar high and it certainly does you a whole lot more good.

#4. Take up vaping
If you’re still worried about the effects of quitting smoking, ditch those tobacco cigs in favour of an e-cig. With vaping, you get all the pleasure of smoking, without any of the nasty side effects from the tobacco.

There’s even icing on that cake, because your clothes won’t stink, you can do it indoors, and you will no longer have to deal with lectures from family members and friends who have been nagging you to quit smoking.

Also, vaping means that you don’t have to worry about your sweet tooth going into overdrive because you won’t be going cold turkey on the nicotine front. You can gradually decrease the amount of nicotine in your e-liquids and trust me Medusa Juice has so many great flavours to help with your sweet tooth, you really won’t believe it.

#5. Change to Nicotine free
When you feel ready, just go without nicotine in your e-liquids. Or, if you’re worried about how to manage your sweet tooth when you quit smoking tobacco cigarettes, but you have your heart dead set on cutting out the nicotine too. Try switching the traditional cigarettes for an e-cig, and choose a nicotine-free e-liquid. You will have a myriad of flavours to choose from and they taste so real it’s truly remarkable.

It Can Be Hard

I won’t deny that it’s not always easy to give things we love up. I have an addictive personality to begin with so I start off with the deck stacked against me. However, after forty-five years of smoking, vaping helped me quit. I found too that my craving of sweets was increased, which is amazing considering I’ve always had a horribly bad sweet tooth to begin with. Nevertheless, I discovered that using naturally sweet e-liquids and choosing faves from the incredible Medusa Juice signature lines of deserts, breakfasts and fruits really helped me all around.

The sweets flavours and fruit blends are so realistic tasting that I got to where I would keep a pen loaded with one of the sweet e-liquids and one with my menthol tobacco and whenever I craved either, I could just hit the pen and the craving was satisfied, quickly and with no mess or extra calories! There are also e-liquids which blend fruits and menthol so you can get two great treats in one if you’d prefer. Whatever craving you’re facing, Medusa Juice can help you feed it and beat it! If you’re still unsure, call or stop into one of the Medusa Juice Vape Shops today. Our staff with sort you out and see you on the way to better health in no time. Plus, it’s fun!
