From the very beginning of the vaping revolution, we have seen tremendous growth, especially over the past few years. While these different devices are rapidly progressing, their performance has continued improving too. You may be surprised to learn that even e-liquid has evolved to provide a better overall vaping experience. Personally, I find this transformation in design to be astounding. It has prompted many enthusiasts to switch from big mods to the smaller pods. While the devices may be smaller, performance has remained more than equal to the task. Over time, as our devices continue to advance and we adopt new technologies that afford superior performance, it raises a bewildering question. We are asking why isn’t the vaporizer producing enough vapor?
As we go along, together, we will explore a multitude of troubleshooting tips for those that have vaporizers which do not seem to produce enough vapor. As consumers, we tend to quickly blame the manufacturer for a device that doesn’t perform to our expectations. Keep in mind though, that before you return the item and write it off as defective, here are a few steps you can take that will have you blowing thick, billowy clouds in no time at all. Troubleshooting Low Vapor Output – Make Sure The Device Is Fully Charged
While this may seem rudimentary, there are a great many individuals who do not quite understand the impact that a depleted battery will have on the performance and resulting vapor your device is able to produce. This can be especially true with respect to devices that use Voltage-Based Output systems. Configurations like these operate is such a way that the device’s performance is tied directly to the current state of the battery. Which means that as the battery drains, the power and corresponding performance diminishes along with it. The end result is dramatically reduced vapor production. So, you can see that making sure you have a full charge is vital to proper performance.
Know Your Device’s Capabilities
Being aware of your device’s capabilities and functionality is a critical step to increasing vapor production. While some advanced vaporizers offer variable voltage and/or variable wattage control, many others merely rely on a combination of the coil and the current state of the battery for their performance. If your particular device is regulated and has either variable voltage or adjustable wattage control, research the wattage/voltage range of the coil you are using to ensure that you are supplying enough power to properly vaporize the e-juice.
Not having enough power will seriously limit the amount of vapor which can be produced during use. If the device relies on the current state of the battery and the coil, simply switching to a coil with lower resistance and a fully charged battery may increase vapor production and eliminate the performance problem you are experiencing. So, while a simple thing, it is important.
With so many different ways to increase vapor production, we must also remember that proper airflow is among the most important. There are some tanks which feature adjustable airflow control functionality, while others maintain fixed air intake systems. Vape tanks that offer variable airflow capability are beneficial, as they enable you to fine-tune the airiness of your draw, which in turn means you control the volume of vapor that is produced with each hit. If you wish increase vapor production, simply open the intake valve to allow for more air to enter during use. For the tanks that do not offer this control, they can still be tweaked to help maximize vapor production. For example, using a wide-bore drip tip may help to open the airway and allow for denser vapor clouds.
Use E-Juices with Higher Vegetable Glycerin (VG)
There are four primary ingredients in e-liquids. They are Propylene Glycol (PG), Vegetable Glycerin (VG), flavoring, and (with the exception of 0mg e-juices) nicotine. While PG is used to help promote a more pronounced throat hit and increased flavor intensity, VG is utilized to create thicker and denser vapor. When you’re shopping for a new e-liquid to purchase, keep this in mind and be aware of the VG/PG ratio and select blends that favor VG in order to increase vapor production. It is important to note, however, that some basic tanks that operate with smaller atomizer coils may not be capable of adequately vaporizing e-juices with high levels of VG, as it is substantially thicker than PG-dominant juices, and therefore, they may clog the atomizer coil.
Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) vs Direct-to-Lung (DTL) Hits
When you’re using an electronic cigarette or vaporizer, there are essentially two hit styles that a vaper employs, these are mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung. The mouth-to-lung hit is one where the individual first pulls the vapor into their mouth, then inhales it into their lungs. This style is similar to that of smoking a tobacco cigarette. The direct-to-lung hit, on the other hand, involves inhaling the vapor straight into the lungs, thus bypassing the mouth altogether.
The type of hit used is directly related to the volume of vapor which is ultimately created. Since a MTL vaper can only produce the amount of vapor that they can hold inside of their mouth, the density of the cloud will be significantly less than a DTL vaper who suctions massive amounts of vapor straight into their lungs.
It is critical to note, however, that the style of hit taken must be done in conjunction with the type of tank being used as well. This is because some tanks are designed for DTL vaping, while others are intended for MTL vaping. Using a DTL vaping style on a MTL tank may result in harsh hits, flooding, and a gurgling of the atomizer coils. This also means that taking MTL hits on a tank engineered for DTL vaping may prove problematic as well. So be sure of what style your gear is suited for and then only use it for that style in order to ensure the most rewarding and productive vaping.
