Cromer is a coastal town about four miles north of Norwich. A traditional tourist town and famed for the crabs found in the North Sea that it borders. Although originally a fisherman’s town, crab is chief amongst things the area is known for today. Tourism began to become popular in Victorian times and remains an important part of the town’s economy.
Stepping through time
As with many coastal towns, there are plenty of outdoor things to do and see and that includes things you can do as a family or couple. Cromer Beach and Cromer Pier are lovely. There’s a golf course here as well if you want to play a few rounds. Cromer Lifeboat Station is a visitor centre, where you can learn even more about the local area, buy postcards and tickets for local attractions. Be sure to stop in and see what’s on while you’re there.
One of my favourite places to visit there is the Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary, but I also enjoy the Amazona Zoo. You can spend hours there without even noticing it.
If Museums are your thing, be sure to check out RNLI Henry Blogg Museum or Cromer Museum or both. Fun and interesting things can be seen there and you won’t get bored easily at either place.
On the way
Brisbane Antiques and The Garden House Gallery and Shop are both wonderful places to see local artwork and the work of artists their artistry. There’s plenty of gift shops too, such as Little Gems, Crystal Moon Cavern and Upstairs Downstairs. While shopping you can stop into Pedlars Barrow too.
You can take a boat out on Cromer Boating Lake, or ride around the course at Karttrak Cromer Ltd. Or you can take in a film at Regal Movieplex Cromer if you want something a bit more sedate. However, there is a mini golf course in town called Cromer Putting Green you might enjoy as well.
Don’t forget the local landmarks while in Cromer like Cromer Parish Church.
If you fancy having a bite to eat or something to drink, you can always check out The Old Rock Shop Bistro, Foundry Arms or The Rocket House Cafe. You can find just about anything in town and if you want something a bit on the cheaper side, there’s Crab Pot Cafe, Blue Sky Cafe and North Lodge Park Tea Rooms.
